Galen is focused on tracking Active Data which raises the question: what exactly is active data?

We think of Active Data as data in motion – it may well have come from a static location such as a database but once it has moved from that database and (1) copied to another database or data store or (2) enriched or (3) transformed in someway, it becomes data in motion and therefore Active.

We focus on active data as understanding your business relies on understanding how the data moves around your organisation. In addition, making the processes that use that data more efficient and recognising the value of data is dependent on understanding how the data is actually used in the first place. When that is understood, you can then look at optimising the data quality, re-using key data and ideally establishing a golden source for all of the reference data that your organisation uses on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis.
